There are a lot of people online who are saying that being a parent has become a countercultural act. They claim it used to be normal for everyone to aspire to have a family, but now that more and more young adults are deciding to be childless, moms and dads are totally punk rock. While I disagree with that analysis, it’s impossible to deny that having kids is no walk in the park these days. Childcare is exorbitantly expensive; some parents in the UK pay a third of their income on daycare. The things we need to raise a family keep getting more pricey, and salaries are not increasing accordingly. It can be a scary time to be a parent, but sometimes you’ve just got to take a leap of faith into the scary and rewarding world.
