One of the wildest things about the internet we live on today is that almost anybody has the chance to make themselves famous. It’s not like you have ever really needed talent to be a celebrity in this century, but in the before times it involved a lot of gatekeeping and having to know a guy who knows a guy if you wanted to stake your place in the gossip columns.

These days, not quite so much! It seems like the only things you need are a random interest and a little tenacity to carve out your own space in the wacky world of niche internet microcelebrity. We’re at the point where the not-so-humble Instagram influencer feels like part of a bygone era. The doomsayers will have no problem in telling you the downsides of this, but at least the internet celebrities of 2023 try hard to be entertaining. Whether they succeed is a matter of personal taste, but those listed below (in no particular order) have definitely made their mark on social media this year.
