As we go through the week, our standards for entertainment tend to plummet. Instead of seeking out smart, compelling films and books, by the time Wednesday hits we’re just looking for a distraction. Subtitles? No thanks. Wordy creative fiction or a fascinating trip through history? Can’t do it.
