Desperate times call for desperate measures, and if the upcoming holidays are not the very definition of desperate times, then I don’t know what is. I can already see myself driving about 9 hours to get to my mother’s, who, to be fair, will have cooked up a very delicious meal in honor of me and the rest of her guests, some of whom include my siblings. Her big, Victorian house will be filled with yummy aromas, the fireplace will be nicely decorated with overpriced socks, and the tall, looming Christmas tree will be covered in gold, red, green, and silver ornaments. She doesn’t much like the color blue, so none of that, please.

Of course, as stated, my siblings will be there, each with their own dramatic tale of their travels, which I am sure, were much more tedious than my 9 hours of driving. One of them will bring their dog, who I am allergic to, but who cares, as long as I live? And live, I do.
