A game is a portal into another dimension where you can be the hero of your story. You can be a hero in your own life, too, but in video games, it’s more cut and dry. You get to do awesomely impossible tasks that save lives and fulfill your destiny. Sure, you kind of do that in regular life, too. You can walk down your street, pick up a piece of litter, and put it in the trash. You’ve helped save the world, even in a minuscule way. 

But games can put you in the center of the universe in ways that are hard to achieve in real life. It’s part of the reason we get so sucked into them. They help us feel like we have purpose. Even if that purpose is driving stolen cars down a Miami highway. And while we bask in the glow of feeling like a hero, we can look at these memes.
