Weddings are all about theatrics. You may be thinking, «I’m not a theatrical person, my wedding was/is going to be normal.» Wrong. All weddings, unless they are simply you going to the courthouse in your regular clothes to sign papers, are theatrical. The very nature of it is like a play. You rent out a space, you invite an audience of witnesses, you say pre-prepared lines, and you wear costumes. I hate to break it to you, hon, but that’s off-Broadway.
There’s nothing wrong with leaning into that level of theatricality. Maybe you want to choose specific music or write your own vows. Maybe you even do a choreographed dance. And if I’m invited to the wedding, I’m hoping you put a little effort into it. I paid handsomely for my admission (dress, wedding gift, lodging if out-of-town), and I’d like to be entertained, please. None of that causal nonsense.
