Inserts: ‘I’m the owner of this house’ Meme!
Just because parents pay the rent, doesn’t that mean that children shouldn’t receive any form of respect? It is great when children take it upon themselves to help out around the house, with daily chores and cleaning up after themselves. However, we are not quite certain if it should be their job to pick up after others living in the house, especially those who do not contribute to a clean and comfortable environment themselves…
This 18-year-old daughter is feeling frustrated as she is left to pick up after herself, her mother, and her mother’s boyfriend’s mess around the house! She has started to feel like these tasks are expected of her, so when she jokingly says something about the moldy food in the oven, her mother flips out, pulling the ‘I gave birth to you’ and ‘I pay the rent’ cards. How is any teenager supposed to respond to that?
The whole situation has created a pull of back-and-forth response. Many people believe that this is a case in the mother’s favour, honoring the my house, my rules approach, whereas others tend to stick with the view that this teen is being a bit neglected, with a lack of appreciation shown towards her.
