It is an unavoidable fact about kids that sometimes, they are going to act out and also say things that they probably shouldn’t. They have yet to learn all the complicated rules of social niceties or how to regulate their emotions in an acceptable way. At the same time, it can be all too common for parents to ignore or encourage it when they do things that aren’t right, despite the fact that it is one of the main duties of parenthood.
Obviously, a child behaving badly and a parent ignoring it or defending it is liable to put strain on their relationships with those around them. It can get especially tricky when other family members are involved, and sometimes these situations can jeopardize once important bonds between relatives. The key is finding a middle ground and, as a parent, taking responsibility for a child’s misbehavior when they step too far.
