One day out from the Oscars, and amidst all the celebration of the best in filmmaking from the past year, there are probably a lot of Tolkien fans and movie lovers who feel like they aren’t what they used to be. The reason is simple: we are long past the point where Peter Jackson’s iconic interpretation of The Lord of the Rings trilogy is up for any awards. It still holds the record of being the series of movies with the most golden statues, and anyone reading this will insist that they are all fully deserved. 

While those glory days are probably never going to be relived, wannabe Middle-earth inhabitants still have the next best form of celebration in the form of all the funny memes that Tolkien’s works continue to inspire. Humor this persistent can only come from the richest and most entertaining of source material, no argument about it.
