There is a reason that breaking bread is used as a metaphor for building friendships and community, and that is because food is so much more than the nutrients we consume to keep ourselves alive. It can be a comfort when times are hard, or an integral part of a celebration; it is one of the most important ways that people show hospitality in pretty much every culture, and it is central to the social lives of many. 

Considering all this, it is no wonder that everything we find edible (or at least on the borderline) has been considered fair game in the world of memes. Playing with your food when the end game is internet humor is more than acceptable, and there is even an argument to be made that it is nourishing as well. We don’t have to spend hours sweating over a hot stove to enjoy it, either, which is a bonus.
