When adult children move back into their parents’ house, it is rarely their first choice of living situation. Most of the time, they are going there either because they have been kicked out of their previous accommodation, or they want to save some money, and neither of those options exactly screams ‘fun’. Even those who have a strong relationship with their moms and dads can find it trying to live with them all the time, while also fully exercising the benefits of their adult independence.
One of the reasons for this is that many parents will take this as an opportunity to try and control their kids in a way that they should no longer be able to. Perhaps the main benefit of growing up is that you don’t have to listen to your elders if you don’t want to, but that doesn’t stop some of them from trying to rule their households with an iron fist.
