It’s strange to think how different the world would be if we didn’t have memes. It would be a lot harder to procrastinate online, and broadcasting all our mundane and stupid thoughts would be a lot more boring. On top of that, those of us suffering from the worst cases of internet brain rot would be forced to think actual thoughts, instead of disjointed fragments of different pieces of crap we’ve absorbed from the internet.

In all honesty, it’s not an alternate universe that we would want to live in. Memes might not be perfect, but they are an excellent way to achieve some low-effort enjoyment that provides a few minutes (or hours, or days) of escapism. It beats staring at the wall, doing something productive, or having a conversation with another human being. It’s a miracle that we don’t spend more time looking at them, if you really think about it.
