Whenever my sister asks me to babysit her daughter overnight, we plan it for at least a week to make sure we have all the details in line. She packs their bags, moves the car seats to my car, gives me a list of meals I can make for them, and ensures I know their exact bedtime and schedule for the next day.

It’s a whole process, as it should be.

If she were to simply come over, hang out for a bit, and then tell me, «Okay, I’m leaving. Can I leave the kids here for the night?» The answer would be absolutely not. That is not how this works.
