Being a host is exhausting. Even if you love your guests, even if they’re your lifelong besties, there’s a special kind of burnout that comes from prepping your house like it’s going on Airbnb, being full-time tour guide, and turning your entire routine upside down to keep everyone comfortable and entertained. And when they finally leave, you need like a solid week to decompress and find your inner peace again.
Personally, I’ve started taking a day off after a trip or a hosting stint just to reset. I didn’t used to; I’d just power through and drag myself back to work the next morning, convinced I’d be fine. I was not fine. I am now fortunate enough to have PTO to allow me to take a much needed reset the day after a trip. Nothing is getting done anyway.
When this host took a well-earned day off post-visit, their houseguests didn’t understand the point and decided to extend their stay for the full day. As you can imagine, this didn’t go over very well.
