One of the most popular memes inspired by the iconic life simulator The Sims uses a screenshot from The Sims 3. It depicts an infant Sim lying on the floor on fire while its mom stares intently at a computer screen, playing video games. It acts as an apt metaphor not only for the addictive nature of the game, but also for how many longtime Sims fans, or «simmers,» have felt like parent company EA has treated its older games in recent years.
Until recently, classic titles The Sims (2000) and The Sims 2 (2004) were considered abandonware, i.e. software that was no longer for sale and had no official support from its manufacturer. That is the case no longer, as in celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary both games were re-released at the end of January as The Legacy Collection.
