Top ‘I Don’t Work Here Lady’ Stories of the Week (July 2, 2023)

You know what they say about when you assume…

These folks certainly know how it feels to be treated like a customer service employee when in reality, they were just another customer. They shared their stories to Reddit’s r/IDontWorkHereLady subreddit, and we’ve included a list of the top stories below.

When this kind of thing happens to you, there are a number of ways in which you can proceed. First, you can say the truth and tell the other person off, which is well within your rights especially if the other person seems rude. Now, sometimes it is genuinely a simple mistake (perhaps you were wearing the exact same color as the employees at the store or perhaps the person who made the mistake is a sweet old lady). When this happens, you can tell that person the truth gently and perhaps direct them to someone who can help.

But then there are the instances where you can have a little fun. If the person was particularly rude, you can go along with the idea that you work there and give them an especially hard time until they figure out the truth themselves. Or if they’re nice but you actually think you can help them with their issue, you can have a cute wholesome moment and gain the reputation of being a good samaritan.
