Vacuum-Powered Laundry Chute Prompts Innuendos And Confusion From Twitter

When it comes to gadgets that help us around the home, we have to pat ourselves on the back for how far we’ve come in the past century. We no longer have to put our wet clothes through a mangle, or spend long, arduous hours brushing dirt out the carpet thanks to the wonders of modern appliances. It’s hard to imagine how in a country like the U.S., we ever managed without these things in the first place — although technically speaking, some of the grosser people out there pretty much do.

On top of this, the technology in these areas is improving all the time, or at least, that’s what they want us think. The SHEIN era has heralded all kinds of wild household gizmos, but some make more sense than others. Case in point is a video that has received viral fame this week, after its claims that it made random piles of dirty laundry on the floor a thing of the past.

The advert for the «Laundry Jet» shows the exclusively male residents of a family home throwing their used clothing into the chute, which then sucks it through to an undisclosed area. Sexist household ad tropes and practical concerns aside, the hole is also dangerously close to crotch height. When the video was shared to Twitter, it’s no surprise that it elicited a typically calamitous response. While it’s true that there are ways in which household chores could still be made easier and more efficient, sometimes we should just take a moment to appreciate what we have without going too Elon Musk about the whole thing.
