While many people are keen to dismiss the effect of memes, they are not in the right about it. The humble image macro has done plenty of heavy lifting in its time, and touched the lives of millions upon millions of people. 

How it does this can vary. Sometimes, it’s just something that is undeniably funny. Other times, they introduce us to a whole new way of thinking about humor — or at least, another kind of meme format that we are going to see pop up continuously for the next couple of years. They can also make us angry, or sad, or confused, but the uniting principle is that they all manage to give a couple of seconds of much wanted distraction.

Just like any kind of communication, memes can provoke all kinds of reaction from us. The main thing is that they stay entertaining, and it doesn’t look like they’re faltering at that yet.
