Infuriating Thread Reveals The Difficulties Of Negotiating Pay

There are many reasons that people do their jobs. Some of the workforce are out there really helping the world on a daily basis, and they get to lord it over the rest of us. Others get a huge power trip from being able to control whatever their position entails. There’s even some who simply get off on being busy enough to feel better than all of us slackers.

For most of the working population, though, we grind for one reason and one reason only: we want money. Everybody knows that most of us need to work and aren’t doing it out of choice, but many companies can still be tricky to negotiate with when it comes to workers getting the pay that they deserve. This is bad enough when you’re trying to pluck up the courage to ask for a raise — however, things can be even worse when you’re trying to secure a role in the first place.

This was recently illustrated by a viral tweet from @adarrable, where she complained how a company had rescinded her job offer after she had asked for a salary $8,000 higher than what they had originally proposed. What followed was a thread lamenting why so many employers saw fit to short-change both potential and current employees, even when they tried to do something about it. Perhaps if it’s not part of the «culture» to negotiate money, places should pay workers a fair wage in the first place.
