The Best Dungeons & Dragons Memes of the Week (May 20, 2022)

The first time I ever played any sort of board game was when I was eight years old. The game was Monopoly and my Dad thought it would be a fun time for my sister and I. While I share his love of competition, he was sorely mistaken. I became mad with power as I destroyed my little sister’s spirit, and pretend wallet. My Dad, in turn, relished messing with me. While I struggled to maintain some sort of savings, Monopoly quickly became my sister’s least favorite activity. Eventually, she grew so frustrated (sore loser) that she knocked over the entire board, scattering little houses, a few hotels, and our precious metal pieces across our dining room table and floor. She never played again, and playing alone with my Dad meant losing, every time. I was turned off by the game, and resorted to playing the computer version, or other, less ruthless games with friends. Friends who lacked the sore loser gene of my sister.

One day, I found Dungeons & Dragons, a game all about cooperation, imagination, and collaboration. D&D taught me that multiplayer games aren’t always designed to make players compete against each other. On the contrary, in D&D, if players don’t work together, the whole game can fall apart. And because anyone who is taking part has committed to the activity, you’re way less likely to deal with anyone having a temper tantrum and quitting altogether. In honor of this great game, we’ve put together another batch of the best D&D memes we’ve seen this week. While there are a couple oldie goldies, most of the jokes are freshly harvested from Reddit. We hope they bring as much joy your way as they did for us.
