I have a bone to pick with a trendy Disney hot take. I hate it when people complain that Flynn Ryder cut Rapunzel’s hair «too short» in Tangled. It’s easy to say that he was barely conscious and on the verge of death, but I’d take it a step further and say that Rapunzel’s short brown hair is of great symbolic import. Her long blonde hair was only valued for how it served her literal abductor. Sure, she had fun using it as a swing around her towner, but it literally and metaphorically weighed her down, and she wouldn’t have been able to escape if he hadn’t taken away what fueled Mother Gothel. I hate litigating the bob length because it’s much more impactful for her to have a kind of fugly, very short haircut than have it a regular length by 2010 standards.
