There are certain types of foods that just scream summer, like BBQ, ice cream, or certain kinds of seasonal fruits. I would argue that if we want to get really fancy with it, we can add charcuterie to that list of summer foods as well. I mean, it’s generally served cold, it’s light and snacky for hot weather(although finishing all that meat and cheese is enough to put those with less stamina into a food coma), and it all it requires assembling a bunch of stuff from the cupboard and refrigerator, as opposed to actually cooking. Also, it is the exact kind of food that you pick at on a European vacation, sitting outside in the sunshine.
As the more perceptive among us have pointed out, the average charcuterie board is basically a fancy Lunchable with some extra pieces thrown in. That is exactly what makes it so great, and so memeable.
