Creators online have built careers filming a simple household task: Cleaning. As viewers, we spend countless minutes watching rugs be vacuumed, toilet bowls drowned in a rainbow of products, and even women reviving old, neglected gravestones. The internet has long celebrated the mundane, but cleaning videos have an especially soothing effect for some viewers. This side of TikTok, sometimes called #CleanTok, represents not only a powerful trend numbers-wise (one of its top creators, @operation_niki has over 5 million followers) but also an interesting case study about what attracts us to certain videos.
