Your coworkers can make or break a job for you. I know people who’ve met their life partner while clocked in at the same place of employment. I know people who got hired at another company by their boss from their previous company. I know people who hang out with their coworkers at Happy Hour literally five days a week. Having good coworkers, even if they’re just good at their job and you don’t have a close interpersonal relationship, can make your day to day life so much better.
On the other hand, a bad coworker can make your life a living heck. One of my besties has a coworker who is constantly whistling on the job, which might sound banal, but is incredibly frustrating when you’re trying to work in a hospital. It’s bad enough having to spend 40 hours a week with someone who’s annoying. It’s so much worse to spend 40 hours a week with someone who actively dislikes you and wishes you didn’t work there. I’ve never witnessed someone sabotage their coworker first hand, but it’s easier to do than you’d think. If your work enemy witnesses you slip up one time, they could easily chose the tattletale route.
