We all likely have an image in our head of an evil «mommy vlogger» who uses her children as plot points, living vicariously through them in a vain effort to fulfill her own desire for stardom. Constantly pointing a camera in their faces, hoping that they’ll say something usable for social media views and engagement. At this point in internet history, it’s a well-worn trope, and the harm that the entertainment industry inflicts on young ones has become common knowledge through tell-all memoirs, court cases, and documentaries. We’re more aware than ever of the dangers of celebrity on a developing mind, of easily eschewed labor laws on sets (especially when it comes to social media productions), and of overbearing parents stifling their children’s growth in favor of fame and fortune.
