One of my favorite forms of comedy is simply when people mispronounce words. A well-placed mispronounced word makes me giggle until the cows come home. Like in Wet Hot American Summer, when Paul Rudd’s character says «durnal’ instead of «journal.» It’s a blink and you’ll miss it kind of moment, but if you catch it, it makes the already great movie 1000% better. Another classic (if a bit overused) example of this is the vine «freesh avocadoo.» It has lived in our minds rent-free for a reason. Another great one is when Michael Scott says, «I’m not superstitious, just a little stitious.»
We know what he’s trying to get at, but watching him fail at it just tickles our brains. We get a little joy out of watching people try and fail, especially when we know what they are going for. It’s not a dire mistake, just a little gaff that makes us chuckle.
