Last weekend, the Eagles defeated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, and as an animal lover, I couldn’t be more pleased. I think that animals make the best mascots, and any mascot that’s a human being (especially a negative depiction of Native Americans) is inferior. Animal mascots are classic! The Chicago Bears and the Carolina Panthers may not be great teams, but they have iconic animals representing them. If I ever saw Rowdy, the Dallas Cowboys mascot, in public, I would have to leave the room because he is that unsightly. Viktor the Viking and Brownie the Elf are at least fun in a whimsical way, but they will never usurp the likes of Poe, Freddie Falcon, or Billy Buffalo. Sourdough Sam is not welcome in my community.
