It’s a great day to be a Midwesterner. June is always (well, usually) a beautiful time around these parts. The weather is starting to turn, the days are long, and everyone is willing to go on an ice cream walk. Well, if you’re in my neighborhood you’re willing to go on a frozen custard walk, which is like an ice cream walk but a little more delicious. Midwestern delicacies are all around in the summer. 

Barbecues summon potato salad, pasta salad, and even Snickers salad. Midwestern dads are firing up the grill asking everyone if they want cheese on their burger. Midwestern moms are arranging tournaments of bags. Midwestern children are filling up water balloons to pelt at each other. These are the textures of the Midwest in June. We’re spared from the raging sun at least for a little while longer and can enjoy the shade and a nice shandy. These are the good days.
