Parents tend to nurture golden child syndrome until it becomes an irreversible mindset in the child who has it. Whether the parents let this happen because they truly believe their child can do no wrong, or because they’re simply too lazy or nervous to try and remedy the golden child mindset, the syndrome affects everyone in the family. Most importantly, their other child or children are then considered the forgotten ones.
Golden child syndrome may present itself in numerous ways. Little Jimmy might want a bite of their sibling’s ice cream even though he already finished his own, and will make sure to throw a tantrum until they get that bite of Rocky Road. Teen sister Sara might lock herself in her room until her older sister lets her borrow that shirt with the pink sequins on it (because it’s the only one that matches her shoes). You see what we’re getting at here. The golden child doesn’t take no for an answer, and rather asks for more than their siblings because they can’t stand the idea of someone having more things than them. It’s not a yearning for things; it’s an insistence that they have the last word in everything.
The golden child sister in this story won’t even let her older sister go on dates with her boyfriend because she deems it unfair. Pardon me? Scroll below to read the full story.
