If you’ve never seen the movie Reefer Madness, you’ve got a real treat ahead of you. Reefer Madness is a cult classic film loved by potheads for generations. Originally titled Tell Your Children and released in 1938, the film was intended as an earnest anti-drug movie. It showed the adverse effect of marijuana, ranging from uncontrollable laughter to literal murder. It was re-released in later decades as an exploitation film, and the rest is history.
The experience of watching Reefer Madness isn’t particularly pleasant. It’s an objectively god-awful movie, and it’s hard to believe it could’ve ever taken it seriously, even as early as the 1930s. It’s one of those movies that can only be watched one way: in a movie theatre at midnight in a rowdy crowd that is stoned out of their minds. If you’re willing to give a cult classic a chance, then I think you will have a fun night with this classic film.
