My hopes weren’t particularly high for Amazons Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. And after the season finale, despite the twist everyone was waiting for, my feelings didn’t change much. While it’s a beautiful show, the writing is pretty damn terrible. Writing has a pretty big hand in character development, so if a character is constantly spouting Hallmark-level sentiments, there’s not much that makes one feel connected to them. 

My mixed feelings about the show do not reflect my opinion about the memes inspired by it. Memes inspired by the other Lord of the Rings films never miss, and the new show is no exception. Some of the Rings of Power memes are filled with vitriol, while others are simply incredibly dumb jokes about the series. We don’t discriminate: we see humor even in the hate. We hope you do, too.
