We could all use a little bit of science fiction in our lives. Especially this time of year. Wouldn’t it be great to have a mind-reading device to know exactly what your loved ones want for Christmas? Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a time travel machine so you could be everywhere that you need to be this holiday season and not have to miss a thing? Or maybe a teleportation device so that you can sleep in your own bed even when you’re traveling? The holiday season is stressful enough as it is; it would be nice to have some inventions to make things go a little bit smoother. 

But unfortunately, those technologies are all far away. Or maybe we should say fortunately, because we know how scary it can be when technology moves faster than our brains do. So maybe instead we’ll just curl up with a mug of cocoa and watch our favorite science fiction television shows and movies. They provide comfort and relief, even if they don’t make us more efficient. Because at the end of the day, we’re okay with the world as it is.
