There are a lot of pieces of internet etiquette that are widely known, but even more widely ignored. Top of the list for these has to be «never read the comments». In the age of TikTok, this particular piece of online lore seems almost quaint, but there are still some places where it stands true. 

As a general rule, you don’t want to see what the boomers are ranting about in the comment section of a news website. The nonsense people babble below hokey Facebook memes is even worse. Worst of all, however, is the OG video sharing site. 

The things that people write on YouTube have scarred many over the years, but it doesn’t stop us from mindlessly scrolling through them every time we watch anything on the platform. To give them their due, sometimes the weirdness is entertaining enough to make it worth it. At the same time, this doesn’t make it OK.
