More than the place we come from, our political affiliations, or what we choose to do for a career, the names that we choose to call our kids define the kind of person we are. Names like Karen or Becky mark someone as Boomer or Millennial, respectively; bestow your baby a with a borderline unpronounceable string of letters and numbers, and yep, you’re probably an out of touch celebrity couple who’s too into sci-fi. 

Many of us didn’t have parents that named us with particular creativity. Once you get through your school years, this can often seem like a blessing; however, it’s not one that everyone is given.

This has recently been illustrated by Shylie, otherwise known as @skinnyblondedemon. In a viral TikTok, she shared all the weird and wonderful things that her Mormon family members had been named. The entire family tree seems to have taken an attitude to baby names that is purely based on vibes, implying a lot of parents who got way too invested in the Pinterest aesthetic before it even existed. As with many things in life, what you decide to call your children is a matter of taste. Not everybody has to share it, though.
