The most attractive thing about having a job is that you get money for doing it.
It is literally the entire reason that the concept of ‘work’ exists, and it is most certainly the motivating factor for the majority of the workforce who clock in day in and day out. We all have bills to pay, and on top of that, a lot of us would like a quality of life that needs to be funded somehow. Even in these days of shifting attitudes and LinkedIn entrepreneurs, a monthly salary is still one of the most popular ways to ensure this.
At the same time, it is common knowledge that there are a lot of roles out there that remain chronically underpaid, and leave employees wondering if the effort they put in is even really worth it. It doesn’t help that many companies do their best to keep the remuneration for their jobs a secret, so they can lowball applicants with the infamous ‘salary expectation’ question that comes up in interviews.
Being left in the dark about what a job is going to pay you is one of many frustrating parts of going through the process of searching for work. It can often leave people feeling disappointed.
