There Are Too Many ‘Man-On-the-Street’ Interviewers On Social Media and They’re Only Getting Worse

You’re walking down the street and enjoying your day. You have your headphones on and you’re running late to work. Out of nowhere, someone stops you. You don’t have time to sign a petition or pledge money to Greenpeace, but what’s this? They’re using a lav mic and someone is holding an iPhone nearby. Oh no… They want to ask some pointless question, like how many M&M’s can you fit in your mouth. You know the answer, but you don’t want to give it to them. You’re late for work, and this is the third time this has happened this week!

This, unfortunately happens constantly and social media is the proof, filling your feeds to the brim with these kinds of «man-on-the-street» interviewers. They ask questions like, «Can you name this song?» or «How much rent do you pay?» Or worse, more misogynistic questions like, «Would you date a man who only makes $20k?» At best, these videos are staged and clearly planned ahead of time. At worst, they accost regular people with terrible questions. And because there is an absolute deluge of this kind of content, only the most outrageous of it is rewarded with engagement, thus the sloppification ensues. We, as internet viewers, deserve better content.
