A lot of us believe that marriage changes people. You might think you know your boyfriend or girlfriend after being with them for a couple of years, but there’s a chance that they’ll turn into a totally different person once you get married. Others believe that the issues that come up during marriage were always simmering under the surface and just needed the conditions of marriage to boil over. For instance, if you never discussed whether you were eventually planning to be on one income while you were dating, you shouldn’t be shocked to discover that you’re not on the same page about that you’re married. 

Before you get married, you need to discuss all sorts of things that you might or might not be on the same page about. If you’re about to get married, and one of you definitely wants kids and the other isn’t so sure, you absolutely need to figure that out before you say, «I do.» It might be a difficult conversation when you’re dating, but it will be a whole lot more difficult to start the dialogue when you’re already married.
