Job seeker lies about having kids so she can leave the office whenever she wants ‘like everyone else with kids’

Is this a brilliant idea, or a recipe for disaster?

Even though we are many years out of preschool, we still can cry and pout about things not being fair. We’re much more able to accept that someone got a slightly larger slice of cake than we were when we were in diapers, but when someone in your office gets special privileges that you are not offered, it can feel like a slap in the face.

Often, all you need to get the same privileges as your coworkers is to ask. If your coworker can leave work early on Tuesdays to go to therapy, there’s a chance that you can do the same thing on Thursdays! You just have to ask! However, sometimes companies are only flexible with employees who have extenuating circumstances related to children and family. For instance, they will let an employee leave early to pick up their sick kid from school, but they won’t let a childless employee leave early to care for their sick mother. Parents are often given privileges that can breed resentment with their fellow coworkers, who are not allowed the same flexibility.
