Being a parent is all about expecting the unexpected, as Julie Chen, the host of Big Brother always says. You can plan and plan all you’d like, but one day your kid is going to look at you and ask you why you have so many lines on your face, and you’ll have to take it on the chin. Kids are brutally honest and have no filter. They will find your deepest insecurities without meaning to and toss them off like they’re nothing.
There’s something beautiful about this, because kids have no shame. They will ask for what they want clearly and directly. What they want might be to eat 3 bags of sour gummy worms for dinner, but at least they’re being honest. When we get older and develop shame, that’s when we realize we shouldn’t point out how tired our mothers look, when we know we’re the reason why. Luckily we have parenting tweets to get us through.
