They say that 90% of parenting is just thinking about when you can lie down again. They say that nothing prepares you for the exhaustion of new parenthood. They say that the work of parenting is never truly over. If that’s all true, which I know it is, then parents easily have the hardest job out there. Sure, there are builders and astronauts who risk their lives in pursuit of engineering and science, but they get to leave their jobs at the end of the day and come home. Parents come home to their job. And there are no PTO days. There actually isn’t even pay to begin with.
So why do we do it? Well, partly because we have little monkey brains that say we should, and partly because there’s no job more rewarding. The minute they hand you a drawing they’re proud of, it’s worth it. And we have these tweets to get us through the hard moments.
