As much as we don’t like to admit it, we all want a little struggle. If things are going too well in your life, you will seek things that inherently challenge and push you. Why do you think J.K. Rowling has gone down the wild trajectory she has? Because even if you have all the money in the world and every need accounted for, you need something to fight for, as misguided as that fight might be. Dudes want to do the FIRE lifestyle, but when they’re 45 and retired, they will need a personal project to fulfill them, or their next 25 years will be as miserable as the 25 years they spent on their high-earning careers.
