Disney is obsessed with making meta-commentaries about its brand. It started with little one-offs, like joking about how annoying the song «It’s a Small World After All» is in The Lion King (1994). Then, they made a movie mocking and eventually reaffirming their earnestly cheerful Disney Princess brand with Enchanted. Frozen probably epitomized this trend, with characters constantly questioning why Anna wanted to «marry a man she just met that day.» 

I wonder how Disney will respond to criticism of their company in this new era. Long gone are the masses that Disney princesses be independent girl bosses who don’t need a man to save them. Today, there’s active backlash against those depictions of female characters in Disney movies, with many fans claiming that young girls shouldn’t be told that falling in love is a bad thing to dream about.
