One of the best feelings in the world is having a video game you’re really looking forward to playing that night… and then getting to play it when you get home. The anticipation is almost more exciting, though. You’re trudging through a boring day at work, but it’s made bearable by the thought that in a few hours, you will be delivered into a world of fun, joy, and wonder. It’s like being in the middle of a really good TV show, or a book, or knowing that you’re getting to see your crush soon. If we didn’t have these little things to look forward to, what would we have?
A game can be a particularly exciting draw because it requires total solitude. Nobody (hopefully) is going to interrupt you when you’re knee-deep in your favorite game. You can reach a total flow state, where everything feels good and right and hours pass by and it feels like seconds.
