Sometimes real life can start to feel like a sci fi movie. Maybe there’s no UFO coming down from the sky to kidnap us and show us to the aliens, but there are drones that fly around unsupervised. Maybe there are no robot butlers that bring us a plate of toast and today’s New York Times, but there is Siri, who could read you a recipe for toast and pull up the New York Times online homepage. Maybe there are no space ships ready to take us between galaxies at the speed of light, but there is the L Train that comes every 5 minutes and that’s pretty darn close. 

There are spectacular things all around us if we just pay attention to them. But if we paid too much attention, we’d walk around in a stupor of awe all the time and we’d never get anything done. This is why we turn to science fiction.
