‘I’m fuming’: Mother-in-law secretly invites 38 extra wedding guests by sharing RSVP link, couple finds out 2 weeks before big day and prepare to block uninvited guests at the door

I can’t imagine coming up with a wedding guest list. You don’t want to leave anyone out, but you also don’t want to pay $50K+ just to make sure your second cousin once removed—who you’ve only met once in your life—gets a seat. There’s a fine line. Plus, your parents usually want to invite people too. And since they’re often footing part of the bill (if you’re lucky), they’re entitled to make a few guest requests. But once you start factoring in extended family, coworkers, family friends, and random plus-ones, things can spiral pretty fast. And then you have to think about the seating chart and how to possibly pair this random hodgepodge of people into tables that make sense. I went to a wedding recently where I was seated with my estranged relatives who have a thing for canceling last minute. There ended up only being two people at my entire table, including myself, even though the poor bride and groom had already paid for their plates. But that’s still better than having 38 uninvited guests show up, which is exactly what happened to this couple after the groom’s mom shared their private RSVP link, even after the couple told her not to.
