Kids will both keep you young and make you feel old at the same time. They make you feel young because suddenly your brain is filled with information about the latest Minecraft YouTuber drama and you know what a «Feastable» is. They make you feel old because you spend so much time doing your laundry that you feel like a washerwoman in ancient times. You’re simultaneously tapped into the youth culture, whether you like it or not, and feeling like you deserve all the gray hairs on your head.
It’s humbling when you realize that not only do they not know what a floppy disk is, they don’t even remember a time without touchscreens. And you realize that you’re the adult, and you’re the one who is calling some desserts «too sweet» and complaining about how firm your pillow is. It’s a wonderful thing, to be caught between childhood and old age, living vicariously and realizing you don’t quite have the energy to.
