14, 15, and 16-year-old siblings refuse to go to Disneyland with their stepmom, dad, and their 2 children on Mother’s Day, stepmom calls their mom in tears: ‘She was hysterically crying about my kids not being there and how they’re her kids too’

It’s pretty silly to expect someone to spend Mother’s Day with someone who isn’t their mother if they can spend it with their mother. If you and your mom live in different cities or don’t get along, I understand why you wouldn’t hang out on Mother’s Day. But Mother’s Day is not the time to ensure step-parents are treated as equals to their parental counterparts. There are times for blended families to come together and celebrate, but I’m not sure if Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are those times.

The stepmother in this story is highly out of line. Instead of merely enjoying Mother’s Day with her children, she asked her teenage stepkids if they’d want to spend the day away from their mother. When they declined, she threw a tantrum over the phone to their mom, despite her having nothing to do with the kids not wanting to go.
