‘Don’t cry for me theatre kids:’ How the bold directorial decision to bring a famous musical number about the people to the people is stirring up drama

Theatre kids and enthusiasts sure know how to be dramatic; it seems to be a required quality for anyone with a love for the stage. There is no theater without drama—which also goes for the internet, so combined, they might be the most dramatic community out there. As a self-proclaimed theater kid myself, I can tell you that we deeply feel for every character we see on stage, we over-analyze every line and every stage direction, and talk about it nonstop. The stage is our home and our family. This means, being as dramatic as we are, that when something slightly controversial or interesting happens in our family, we blow it out of proportion.

Which is exactly what happened recently on the stage of Evita in the West End, London’s theater district.
