Mom refuses to let dad of a 7-year-old and 8-month-old twins go on a solo trip without the rest of the family: ‘I’m working, we don’t have full time child care, and it’s honestly just a lot with the 3 kids’

Once you become a parent, a lot of your freedom gets swallowed up. As a single person, I could hypothetically take a year off from all my responsibilities and travel the world, and it wouldn’t significantly impact anyone other than me. Sure, I’d have to save up and find someone to sublet my room for the last months of the lease, but if I could swing both of those things, I could do it! If I had a spouse or a baby, it would be virtually impossible for me to travel and do as I please whenever and wherever I want. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it’s beneficial to impose restrictions on yourself. Every season of life has different levels of freedom, and it’s good that you don’t have the same freedom you have at 30 when you’re 13. While taking on more responsibility can be fulfilling, there’s always the temptation to escape it.
