To some, their hair is their pride and joy—it’s tied to their entire identity. A teenage boy was particularly obsessed with his long hair and spent years cultivating his persona alongside his haircut, and even though he wanted to support his 7-year-old cousin’s cancer diagnosis, he refused. Noticing that his family was performatively shaving their heads in solidarity with the little girl, he was too attached to his own hair to let go of the one thing he liked about his appearance.
